International Bomber Command Centre
Located in Lincoln, the International Bomber Command Centre is dedicated to the thousands of men and women from across the world who were part of Bomber Command’s efforts during WWII.
The site is centred around the Memorial Spire and the Wall of Names. The spire is the UK’s tallest memorial and is based on the dimensions of the wingspan of a Lancaster bomber – 102ft high and 16ft wide at the base.
The Wall of Names holds close to 60,000 names of those who sadly lost their lives. Alongside a visitor centre and café, two large Peace Gardens provide a contemplative space.
Funding for the IBCC came from mainly private donations as well as the support of funding bodies such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Chancellor’s LIBOR funds.
