Koko Club

The project involved the restoration of three buildings – the original Grade II Listed Victorian theatre from 1900, a former piano factory dating from around 1800 and the Hope and Anchor pub – a favourite of Charles Dickens.

Designed by Archer Humphryes Architects with interiors by Pirajean Lees, the 50,000 sq ft multi-use space features live streaming facilities, a radio station, shop, late-night pizzeria and a bar hosting intimate live performances.

Members also have access to a roof terrace conservatory, recording studio, piano room and a cocktail bar inside the restored copper dome.

The restoration saw the discovery of a fly tower performance space near the main stage which has been developed with the support of English Heritage to create an intimate setting where musicians can perform in a manner similar to that of the early 1900s.
