National Trust for Scotland Projects

The National Trust for Scotland has embarked on an ambitious five-year plan to encourage more people to experience Scotland's built and natural environment. By enhancing visitor experiences at key sites, the conservation charity is preserving and showcasing the heritage and tradition of landmark buildings.

The conservation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House in Helensburgh will see the house being encased in a protective cage to shield the building during works. The semi-permeable metallic mesh pavilion, designed by award-winning architects Carmody Groarke, will allow the building to dry out over a number of years so conservation works can be undertaken to save the world-famous house for generations to come.

The recently completed Brodie Castle in Moray has been enhanced with a new visitor pavilion and award-winning playful garden while further visitor enhancements are planned at Newhailes House in Musselburgh. Glencoe visitor centre will be refurbished and extended and a new access viewing tower for visitors is being constructed at Inverewe Garden and Estate in Wester Ross.
