David Livingstone Birthplace

David Livingstone Birthplace

Scottish explorer David Livingstone's birthplace is home to a museum run by The David Livingstone Trust. A conservation and renovation project at The Birthplace Museum has been delivered to attract more visitors to follow Livingstone’s journey from Blantyre to Africa through a new interactive exhibition.

Improvement works included renewal of the Category A Listed Shuttle Row and the Weavers Cottages, new interpretation works of the internationally important collection and refurbishment of the African Pavilions including café, shop and multi-use space. External works involved a new children’s play area and car park improvements.

Our cost managers were involved in the project from feasibility stage, delivering cost advice through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) application stage to project completion. This project was part funded by HLF, Historic Environment Scotland and the Scottish Government.
