The Ashmolean Museum - Egypt Galleries

Ashmolean Museum - Egypt Galleries and Shop

The project comprised six refurbished, extended and refitted galleries to display the museum's world-renowned collections from Ancient Egypt and Nubia (modern day Sudan).

The £5m project, designed by Rick Mather Architects, more than doubles the number of mummies and coffins on display. Special attractions include the Shrine of Taharqa from around 690BC, the only freestanding pharaonic structure in Britain, and two colossal statues of the fertility god Min.

Collected over 300 years, the Ashmolean's Egyptian collections now number more than 40,000 artefacts.
