G&T partnered with Construction Youth Trust (CYT) during December to deliver a Building Future Skills workshop alongside Sir Robert McAlpine and British Land, as part of Broadgate Future Talent, a collaborative five-year project to create new apprenticeship pathways for young Londoners.

The project’s vision introduces young people from the City’s neighbouring communities to all aspects of the built environment and inspires them ߣߣƵapp working in an industry with a huge skills need. The programme supports budding young professionals to develop their employability skills and connect them with life-changing career opportunities.

Alice O'Keeffe
“It was a pleasure to work on this initiative and help inspire young people to look into long term careers within the industry. We have a responsibility to ensure the exciting career opportunities available across the built environment are showcased to students of all ages and backgrounds.”

G&T People & Development Executive

This workshop saw 23 Year 12 students from different schools in and around the Broadgate area learn more ߣߣƵapp the inspiring careers available within the construction and built environment industry and the possible routes into those roles.

G&T volunteers worked with the students across this three-day programme to help them better understand the industry. Following the programme G&T looks forward to welcoming some of these students back for exciting work experience opportunities.

The Building Future Skills Programme

G&T’s People & Development team joined students for a networking Q&A session on Day One of the workshop and to help them put together their initial ideas for their final projects.

Following this, students came to G&T’s London HQ and volunteers from across the business joined them for an apprenticeships Q&A session, a workshop on engaging with local communities and to assist as they worked on their own projects through providing valuable industry insights.

This provided a great opportunity for students to ask questions on the application process, routes into the industry and the day-to-day responsibilities of an apprentice.

G&T's Matt Holman speaking on a judging panel

On the third and final day of the programme G&T’s Matt Holman sat on the final judging panel for the students' projects and met with the students for a networking lunch.

G&T has committed to taking on two work experience students from this Building Future Skills programme with the opportunity to recruit two apprentices during 2024 from our ongoing work with the CYT team.
