National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery’s Inspiring People project addresses the longstanding problems with visitor welcome, access, ticketing and circulation and transforms how the gallery presents itself as a national institution.

G&T worked alongside a design team lead by Jamie Fobert Architects, from RIBA Stage 1 in 2018 to its relaunch in June 2023.

The project comprised a sensitive adaptation of the Grade I Listed building, the creation of a new accessible entrance and forecourt, refurbishment of the gallery spaces, comprehensive re-presentation of the collection and provision of a new learning centre.

The project was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2024.
