Northcliffe House

Northcliffe House

Office refurbishment of the historic former Daily Mail headquarters that will see the extension of two existing levels with the addition of urban green space via multiple landscaped terraces.

The development works will see the wholesale modernisation and refurbishment of the existing asset bringing a blend of old and new together. By retaining, reconfiguring and refurbishing the existing building we have been able to support a low embodied carbon target while targeting highly sustainable accreditations via BREEAM 'Excellent' and WELL Enabled.

A whole-life carbon analysis was used to determine the embodied carbon produced from the construction of Northcliffe and from the energy consumed during its life. The analysis determined that through retaining the building's existing structure and façade, the project was able to comfortably exceed RIBA's 2030 target for embodied carbon in non-domestic buildings.

The project will increase the net lettable space by 9,000 sq ft with the extension of the top two floor levels. The façade of the Art Deco building will be cleaned and repaired and internal building services renewed. New scenic lifts have been installed to the extended core which will overlook a reconfigured atrium extension. Commuter facilities include changing areas, 345 cycle spaces and e-charging points for e-cycles.

During renovation works the atrium will be home to the 40m crane, reducing external disruption and improving project delivery efficiencies.
