Construction works have commenced on a new advanced manufacturing facility on behalf of the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).  The development is located at the Sheffield Business Park on the former Sheffield City Airport site.

G&T is providing Project Management, Employer's Agent and Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy services and is the lead consultant for the appointed design team under the SBS framework.

"Our continued work on advanced manufacturing projects in the region puts us at the forefront of the sector and allows us to flex and innovate to meet the client needs"

Jim Boothroyd

Partner, G&T

The new 2,757m² facility will provide a unique opportunity to undertake translational research in composites manufacturing in the field of aerospace engineering, building on the established world-class research at the AMRC.

The building will accommodate a main workshop which will include complex M&E services and a reinforced slab to support research and development equipment, a robotic machining facility, office space and meeting rooms.

Mark Holden, Head of Estates Development, University of Sheffield said: "We're delighted to work with G&T as part of the project team to deliver the Composites at Speed and Scale (COMPASS) new research facility which will put South Yorkshire at the forefront of UK aerospace manufacturing.  The new building is the latest addition to the University of Sheffield's Innovation District - an established world-leading research district where local innovations result in real-world impact."
