New York Police Academy

Located on a former car pound in College Point, Queens, the new Police Academy consolidates many of the Police Department's existing training facilities into one campus. The new $950m academy, designed by Perkins + Will, is one of New York City's largest building projects ever and will provide state of the art facilities for the thousands of cadets who graduate each year.

This major project includes a metallic blue façade, a library, classrooms, meeting areas and expansive training facilities. More than a third of the Academy space is devoted to gyms and the main gymnasium occupies roughly the space of a professional football field.

In addition to fitness facilities, the Academy also houses numerous fully furnished mock environments for officer training including a street corner with squad cars, convenience store, courtroom, lockable jail cells, subway station with operable turnstiles and a scuba training pool.
