The Engine Shed

The Engine Shed

The Engine Shed is Scotland's new national building conservation centre, aiming to bring the country's built heritage to life through technology and hands-on activities.

At the heart of the design of this former MoD munitions store was the repair, conservation and retention of the original engine shed buildings. The existing building was extended to provide a variety of reconfigurable spaces to maximise floor flexibility with low energy consumption.

The project also included extensive interpretation fit-out works to provide both static and interactive displays, graphic panels and all associated specialist audio and visual infrastructure and equipment.

The building will also be home to Historic Environment Scotland's building conservation research and education facility.

RIAS Award Winner 2018.
