Ashmolean Museum

The project involved the creation of a 9,000m² new build museum extension within a site confined on all sides by adjacent teaching and residential buildings.

Works included the formation of a new basement level with five levels above, two full height atria bringing natural light into the heart of the plan, and interlocking double and single height gallery spaces. The new spaces link seamlessly with the original listed Cockerell museum building at all levels.

Opened by The Queen in October 2009, the building was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize, winning the public vote.
