G&T recently hosted its first NextGen seminar in Manchester at the highly anticipated Landmark office development in the region’s premier business district.

NextGen professionals from across the built environment were invited to take a look at the new office development before it is officially unveiled and to hear from the project team on what makes Landmark a first class development while using the opportunity to make new contacts.

The event

G&T NextGen’s Steve Baker opened the event by welcoming guests and spoke ߣߣƵapp G&T’s commitment to providing the next generation with the opportunities to build their networks.  Steve Baker is also providing Project Management services to Barings Real Estate on the development and has been working with the project team from inception.

Steve then handed over to Ian Mayhew, Managing Director of Barings Real Estate who introduced Landmark to the audience and explained what makes it one of Manchester’s most efficient office buildings.

“Landmark is Barings Real Estate’s first ground-up office development in the UK. Its location, design, efficiency and environmental credentials make it a best in class option for occupiers – whose decision making nowadays has to consider so much more than just rent per sq ft!”

Ian Mayhew

Barings Real Estate

Neil Brook, Regional Director for Bowmer & Kirkland followed by sharing some of the construction challenges which included the demolition of the former Odeon cinema and navigating the logistics of construction in a busy city centre location.

Finally Phil Doyle, Director of 5plus Architects Ltd and BCO Northern Region Chairman closed the presentations by providing an overview of how the Manchester office market has grown and why health and wellbeing is now the driving metric in the workplace.

The development

Landmark is located immediately adjacent to St Peter’s Square, Manchester’s premier business district. Developed by Barings Real Estate and designed by architects Squire & Partners, offering approximately 180,000 sq ft of office space over 14 floors. The development was awarded BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and won the Regional Chair’s Award for Constructability at the North West Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) Awards 2019.

The design has been deliberately influenced by the shift in attitude to work-life balance and with environmental characteristics at its heart. The development has a WiredScore “Platinum” Certification, ensuring Landmark is equipped to support the technological advances of the future.

G&T has a long-standing commitment to championing the next generation to build their networks, develop their skills and grow their profiles across the industry. Our NextGen programme includes a range of events and opportunities for up and coming professionals to get involved.
